The Art of Darkness – A Special Series Curated by Mimo Warto
Finnish visual artist Mimo Warto curates The Art of Darkness, a six-part ART Walkway series exploring beauty, fear, and the shadow within creation.
This October, ART Walkway turns its gaze toward the uneasy relationship between art and fear. The Art of Darkness brings together six stories where creation meets its breaking point — curated and written by Finnish visual artist Mimo Warto.
Warto was the natural choice to lead this edition. Her practice has long examined the emotional architecture of art — how beauty can disturb as deeply as it delights. Her visual language moves between the delicate melancholy of Louise Bourgeois and the narrative intensity of Tim Burton, blending psychological depth with dreamlike precision.
We invited her because she treats darkness as material, not mystery. Warto approaches fear, fragility, and obsession as lived conditions of the creative process, not as spectacle. A third-generation artist who has lived inside the pulse of visual culture since childhood, she carries both distance and discipline — qualities that allow her to navigate what others might only dramatize.
The Art of Darkness is a study in endurance — of how artists, objects, and viewers confront the threshold where beauty turns dangerous, when art stops being a mirror, and becomes a force.

Editorial Context
The Art of Darkness is part of ART Walkway’s continuing dialogue between art and the unseen. The series explores how creativity, vulnerability, and fear converge — and why the act of making remains inseparable from the shadow it casts.
Mimo Warto’s contribution embodies that pursuit completely. Her vision is not sensational but structural: she treats these moments not as curiosities, but as essential coordinates in the landscape of art history.
That equilibrium — empathy held against unease, form balanced with fracture — is what defines her authorship and makes her the voice capable of carrying this edition.
