Terms of Use
Effective date: 16 August 2024
Last updated: 7 June 2026
These Terms of Use govern access to and use of the ART Walkway website, newsletters, account functions, subscriber access, digital archive, editorial content, forms and related communications.
By accessing or using ART Walkway, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the site or related services.
In practical terms, subscribing to ART Walkway may create a free member account or subscription profile. This allows newsletter delivery, account preferences and, where available, access to subscriber-only content. You can unsubscribe, manage settings, contact support or request account deletion through the subscription or account area where available.
These Terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy, Cookies Policy, Governance & Standards, How to Work With ART Walkway, Help & Guidance, Reprints & Permissions, Patronage & Alliances, and Correspondents & Research Fellows pages.
Email addresses are written with [at] to reduce spam. Please replace [at] with @ before sending.
1. About ART Walkway
ART Walkway is an independent cultural publication building a lasting editorial record of the contemporary art field and the conditions that shape it.
We publish reporting, analysis, reviews, essays, field notes, interviews, reference texts, guides, newsletters and research-led work on artists, exhibitions, institutions, markets, policy, technology, labour, patronage, geography, public trust and related cultural conditions.
Our work is provided for informational, cultural, journalistic, critical, educational, research and archival purposes.
ART Walkway does not provide legal, financial, medical, investment or professional advice.
2. Eligibility and access
You may access much of ART Walkway without creating an account.
Certain functions, including newsletter subscriptions, account preferences, subscriber-only content, email delivery, support routes, forms, member access settings or other site functions, may require an account or subscription profile.
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, to create an account or subscribe to ART Walkway communications.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of any login links, account access, devices or credentials used to access ART Walkway.
You are responsible for activity connected to your account, subscription profile, email access link or device where that activity results from your failure to maintain reasonable security.
3. Newsletter subscriptions, membership and subscriber access
Subscribing to an ART Walkway newsletter may create a free member account or subscription profile associated with your email address.
Membership and newsletter subscription functions are currently free unless expressly stated otherwise. They are used for newsletter delivery, subscriber access, account preferences, email access links, support requests, communication management and service administration.
A free subscription may allow access to content, pages or communications available only to subscribers or members.
Subscriber-only access does not create paid subscription rights, ownership rights, editorial rights, contributor status, correspondent status, research fellow status, patron status, partnership status, media partnership status, advertising rights, promotional rights or any entitlement to coverage, publication, editorial participation or continued availability of specific features.
ART Walkway may modify, suspend, expand, restrict or discontinue newsletter, membership, account or subscriber-only access features where operational, editorial, technical, security, rights-related or legal reasons require it.
Newsletter inclusion, where present, is editorially determined or connected to member communication. ART Walkway does not sell paid editorial newsletter placement.
4. Managing your subscription and account
Subscribers may manage their subscription, account preferences and email settings through the subscription or account area where available.
This may include the ability to:
- update account or email preferences;
- manage newsletter subscriptions;
- unsubscribe from emails;
- contact support;
- request account deletion where available;
- access subscriber-only content or settings.
You may unsubscribe from newsletters at any time using the unsubscribe link included in emails or through account preferences where available.
If you request account deletion, some information may still be retained where necessary for legal, security, rights, archival, accounting, dispute-resolution, fraud-prevention, enforcement or legitimate operational purposes, as explained in the Privacy Policy.
5. Permitted use
You may use ART Walkway for lawful personal, informational, educational, research and cultural purposes.
You may link to ART Walkway pages and may quote short excerpts where permitted by law, provided that attribution is clear and the use does not substitute for the original article or distort its meaning.
Students, researchers, educators and scholars may cite and link to ART Walkway with clear attribution. Uploading full text, scans, PDFs or substantial excerpts to course systems, repositories, shared folders, institutional platforms or controlled-access environments may require permission.
Use of the site must not interfere with its operation, security, accessibility, editorial integrity, contributor rights, intellectual property rights, archival record or public trust.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to restrict rights that users may have under applicable copyright exceptions, fair dealing, quotation rights, educational exceptions or mandatory law.
6. Intellectual property
Unless otherwise stated, all ART Walkway content is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
This includes text, headlines, titles, editorial structure, article selection, editorial framing, design elements, graphics, page layout, metadata, newsletters, archive organisation, forms, guides, databases, compilations and other original materials published by ART Walkway.
Images, artworks, photographs, screenshots, video, graphics and third-party materials may be owned by ART Walkway, contributors, artists, photographers, institutions, agencies, licensors or other rights holders. Rights in images and third-party materials are often separate from rights in ART Walkway text.
ART Walkway’s name, logo, identity, design, publication title and related marks may not be used without permission in a way that implies endorsement, partnership, sponsorship, media partnership, promotional affiliation, editorial support, institutional approval or representative authority.
No rights are granted except as expressly stated in these Terms or agreed in writing.
7. Reuse, republication and permissions
Linking is welcome.
Short attributed quotation may be permitted for commentary, criticism, teaching, scholarship, review or research where allowed by applicable law.
Republication, translation, institutional distribution, course use, archival reuse, database use, commercial circulation, client-facing use, promotional use, substantial reproduction, syndication, resale, adaptation, media monitoring, knowledge repository use or controlled-channel distribution of ART Walkway material requires prior written permission.
This includes use by galleries, advisors, agencies, consultants, collectors, sponsors, funders, publishers, educational institutions, cultural organisations, public bodies or commercial entities in client-facing, promotional, advisory, sales, communications, research, educational or institutional contexts.
Permission to reuse text does not automatically include permission to reuse images, artworks, photographs, screenshots, video, graphics, captions, embedded materials or third-party materials.
Licensing does not create endorsement, partnership, sponsorship, promotional affiliation, media partnership, editorial support or editorial influence.
Nothing in this section is intended to restrict rights that users may have under applicable copyright exceptions, fair dealing, quotation rights, educational exceptions or mandatory law.
For licensing, reprints, translations and permissions, see Reprints & Permissions or contact:
permissions[at]artwalkway.com
8. AI, datasets, scraping and automated extraction
ART Walkway content may not be used for model training, dataset compilation, automated extraction, machine learning systems, AI products, AI summarisation tools, content enrichment services, scraping, commercial indexing, synthetic media generation, search enrichment, derivative datasets or similar automated systems without explicit written permission.
This restriction applies to full text, excerpts, headlines, metadata, archive structure, summaries, newsletters, tags, captions, article relationships, extracted facts, derivative records and other materials or data derived from ART Walkway.
You may not, without prior written permission:
- scrape, crawl, harvest, index, extract or systematically collect content, data, metadata or archives;
- use ART Walkway content for model training, dataset compilation, automated extraction, AI products, commercial indexing, content enrichment systems or derivative datasets;
- bypass technical, contractual, access or robots.txt restrictions;
- use automated tools in a way that burdens the site, archive, infrastructure or delivery systems;
- create substitute products, databases, summaries or knowledge systems derived from ART Walkway content.
AI-related, dataset, indexing, scraping or automated extraction requests are reviewed separately and may be declined where the proposed use would compromise authorship, rights integrity, editorial context, archive integrity or public trust.
For AI, dataset, indexing or automated extraction requests, contact:
permissions[at]artwalkway.com
9. Prohibited use
You may not, without prior written permission:
- copy, reproduce, republish, distribute, sell, license, syndicate or commercially exploit ART Walkway content;
- scrape, crawl, harvest, index, extract or systematically collect content, data, metadata or archives;
- use ART Walkway content for model training, dataset compilation, automated extraction, AI products, commercial indexing, content enrichment systems or derivative datasets;
- remove credits, copyright notices, watermarks, source references or attribution;
- misrepresent ART Walkway content as your own;
- alter excerpts in a way that changes meaning, tone, attribution or editorial position;
- use ART Walkway content in promotional, client-facing, advisory, sales, fundraising or communications contexts without permission;
- use ART Walkway’s name, logo, identity or content to imply endorsement, partnership, sponsorship, media partnership, promotional affiliation, editorial support or institutional approval without written permission;
- impersonate ART Walkway, its editors, contributors, correspondents, research fellows, representatives or operational team;
- imply that you represent ART Walkway without written authorisation;
- attempt to access non-public areas, accounts, systems, forms, databases, payment tools, subscriber-only content or administrative tools without authorisation;
- interfere with site operation, security, performance, delivery, accessibility, account functions or newsletter systems;
- introduce malware, spam, automated abuse, excessive requests, malicious code or deceptive technical activity;
- submit false, misleading, unlawful, infringing, defamatory, malicious, confidential or unauthorised material;
- use ART Walkway communication routes to solicit paid editorial coverage, advertorials, sponsored editorial, promotional placement, visibility packages or editorial influence.
We may restrict, suspend, block or terminate access where misuse is detected or reasonably suspected.
10. Accounts, newsletters and communications
If you subscribe to an ART Walkway newsletter, you consent to receive the selected emails.
Newsletters may include editorial updates, member communications, publication notices, account-related information, subscriber access information, patronage communication, institutional updates or other messages connected to ART Walkway’s editorial, archival, reader or operational work.
Operational emails may be sent where necessary for account access, passwordless login, subscription management, security, delivery, receipts where applicable, support, account deletion requests, form submissions, permissions requests or service administration.
If emails bounce, are blocked, marked as invalid or cannot be delivered, ART Walkway may be unable to provide newsletter delivery, subscriber access or account-related messages.
You agree to provide accurate account or subscription information and to keep it reasonably up to date.
ART Walkway may respond from team[at]artwalkway.com for routed enquiries, operational follow-up, account-related matters, form responses or institutional communication. Messages from this address should be understood as communication from ART Walkway’s operating team.
Public enquiries should be initiated through the routes listed on How to Work With ART Walkway.
11. Submissions, proposals, tips, and user-provided materials
You may voluntarily send information, proposals, corrections, tips, documents, images, links, press materials, access invitations, research leads, source material, comments, forms or other materials to ART Walkway.
By submitting material, you represent that you have the right to send it and that doing so does not violate the rights, confidentiality, privacy, security or legal interests of another person or organisation.
Submission does not guarantee review, response, acceptance, publication, confidentiality, payment, return of material, coverage, editorial priority, newsletter inclusion or future consideration.
Submitting a form does not create acceptance, permission, licensing approval, assignment, patronage agreement, partnership agreement, media partnership, contributor status, editorial commitment or other obligation unless confirmed in writing by ART Walkway.
ART Walkway is not responsible for preserving or returning submitted material unless separately agreed in writing.
ART Walkway reviews proposals selectively. We do not accept promotional content, paid placement requests, advertorial proposals, sponsored editorial proposals, paid review requests, newsletter placement requests, visibility package requests, media partnership benefits tied to coverage or requests to shape editorial outcomes.
Promotional material may be submitted for editorial awareness, reporting context, research value, field monitoring or archival relevance, but submission does not guarantee review, response, coverage, publication or newsletter inclusion.
Where material is accepted for publication, quotation, verification, correction review, licensing review, rights review, source review or editorial use, you grant ART Walkway a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to review, store, assess, verify, edit, reproduce, publish, display, preserve, internally share and archive the material as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was submitted and for related editorial, journalistic, verification, correction, rights, licensing, accountability and archival purposes.
If you submit images, artworks, photographs, screenshots, video, graphics, captions or third-party materials, you represent that you have the authority to submit them for the stated purpose and that all required permissions, credits, restrictions and rights-holder information have been disclosed.
For contact routes, see How to Work With ART Walkway.
12. Editorial proposals, correspondents and research fellows
ART Walkway reviews editorial proposals, correspondent enquiries and research fellow submissions selectively.
We do not review unsolicited full manuscripts unless requested. We do not accept completed texts submitted without prior editorial agreement.
Submission of a proposal does not create contributor status, correspondent status, research fellow status, representative status, assignment status, press credential status, payment entitlement, publication guarantee or access entitlement.
Correspondents, contributors and research fellows publish as independent authors under ART Walkway’s editorial standards. Authorship does not create general representation.
ART Walkway does not operate a general press network, contributor club, open credential system or informal access channel.
Letters of assignment, where issued, apply only to the agreed project, subject, timeframe and editorial purpose. They do not create general accreditation, institutional agency, media partnership status or authority to represent ART Walkway beyond the assignment.
ART Walkway may withdraw an assignment letter or contributor authorisation where scope, timing, conflict, conduct, access conditions, rights conditions, verification issues, editorial purpose or institutional risk changes.
ART Walkway’s name may not be used to obtain access, hospitality, travel, accommodation, services, introductions, credentials, invitations, benefits or institutional proximity unrelated to an approved assignment.
Contributor agreements, where applicable, define rights, fees, scope, reuse, republication, archival use, author credit and delivery expectations in writing.
For details, see Correspondents & Research Fellows or contact:
editorial[at]artwalkway.com
13. Access, invitations, hospitality and accreditation
ART Walkway may receive invitations, previews, accreditation information, image access, embargoed access briefings, visit arrangements and other access-related material.
Access, invitations, accreditation, previews, tickets, hospitality, travel, accommodation, briefings and image access may support reporting, research, field awareness or archival context. They do not guarantee coverage, favourable treatment, publication or editorial priority.
Access must not be offered with conditions of coverage, approval, headline control, quote approval, favourable treatment, publication timing, promotional framing or editorial return.
Contributors may not accept benefits that compromise editorial independence or create an expectation of favourable coverage, coverage priority, soft framing, approval, headline control or promotional return.
Where access, travel, accommodation, hospitality, tickets or other benefits are materially relevant to a piece, disclosure may be included.
For access, invitations, previews, image access and accreditation, contact:
access[at]artwalkway.com
14. Confidentiality and source material
ART Walkway may receive confidential tips, documents or source material.
Confidential material should be clearly marked. Please do not send highly sensitive material without first establishing secure contact.
Where confidentiality is requested and granted, ART Walkway will take reasonable steps to protect source identity within applicable law and ethical standards.
Confidentiality cannot be guaranteed where disclosure is legally required, ordered by a competent authority, or necessary to address serious legal, safety, security, rights or public-interest concerns.
Sending information to ART Walkway does not automatically create a confidential relationship.
15. Editorial independence
ART Walkway’s editorial judgment is independent.
Coverage, interpretation, criticism, commissioning, correction, publication, archive decisions, newsletter inclusion and editorial prominence cannot be purchased, sponsored, pressured or negotiated through payment, patronage, advertising, partnerships, access, hospitality, personal relationships, institutional affiliation, user correspondence or subscriber status.
ART Walkway does not publish paid placements, advertorials, sponsored editorials, promotional coverage arrangements, paid editorial newsletter placement, paid reviews, promotional interviews, visibility packages or media partnership benefits tied to editorial coverage.
Patronage, where offered, supports independent editorial and archival work. It does not confer influence over editorial decisions, coverage, interpretation, correction, publication, access, commissioning or editorial priority.
Partnerships and cultural alliances do not extend to editorial commissioning, coverage decisions, favourable treatment, approval rights or interpretive control.
16. Media partnership, endorsement and name use
ART Walkway’s name, logo, identity, article excerpts, screenshots, publication status or editorial work may not be used to imply endorsement, partnership, sponsorship, media partnership, promotional affiliation, editorial support, approval or institutional relationship without written permission.
ART Walkway may not be described as a media partner, sponsor, supporter, collaborator, institutional partner or promotional partner unless this has been agreed in writing.
Editorial coverage is not a media partnership benefit.
Publication by ART Walkway does not imply endorsement of an artist, exhibition, gallery, museum, fair, institution, funder, sponsor, collector, advisor, agency, brand, event, campaign, product, service, policy position or public statement.
You may share links to ART Walkway articles with accurate attribution. Reposting full text, substantial excerpts, screenshots or article images may require permission, especially where used in promotional, institutional or commercial contexts.
17. Corrections and archival record
ART Walkway corrects factual errors in a way that preserves the integrity of the record.
Material corrections, clarifications or updates may be appended to the relevant article. The archive is not silently revised to reshape accurate history, suppress criticism or alter editorial judgment.
Requests for correction should identify the article, the passage in question, the requested correction or clarification, and the factual basis for review.
ART Walkway does not generally remove published articles. Removal is considered only in exceptional circumstances involving legal, ethical, safety, privacy or rights-related concerns.
The archive is part of ART Walkway’s public cultural record. Published work remains available so that cultural developments, interpretations, corrections and institutional histories can be understood over time.
For correction requests, attribution concerns, rights issues and permissions matters, contact:
permissions[at]artwalkway.com
18. Patronage, partnerships, and support
Patronage supports ART Walkway’s editorial and archival conditions. It does not purchase coverage, visibility, favourable treatment, editorial priority, access to drafts, commissioning influence or interpretive control.
ART Walkway may decline, pause or return support where independence, alignment, reputation or public trust could reasonably be compromised.
Recognition of patrons, where agreed, does not imply endorsement, sponsorship, editorial influence or involvement in coverage.
Partnerships and cultural alliances may support research infrastructure, archive development, distribution, access projects, cultural literacy, public programmes or institutional collaboration. They do not create editorial obligation, coverage commitment, approval rights or promotional alignment.
For patronage and institutional support, contact:
patronage[at]artwalkway.com
For partnerships, cultural alliances, events and cultural literacy enquiries, contact:
partnerships[at]artwalkway.com
19. Third-party services and links

The site may contain links to third-party websites, institutions, galleries, artists, publications, payment services, archives, social platforms or other external resources.
ART Walkway is not responsible for the content, policies, availability, accuracy, security, accessibility, reliability or practices of third-party websites or services.
Your use of third-party services may be governed by their own terms and policies.
20. Data, privacy and cookies

21. Availability and changes to the site
ART Walkway aims to maintain the availability, integrity and accessibility of the site and archive, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access.
We may modify, suspend, restrict or discontinue any part of the site, newsletters, account functions, subscriber access, archive access, forms, design, technical infrastructure or services at any time.
We may also correct errors, update content, revise navigation, change features, alter access or update page structure where editorial, operational, technical, security, rights-related or legal reasons require it.
22. Disclaimers
ART Walkway content is provided for informational, cultural, journalistic, critical, educational, research and archival purposes.
While we aim for accuracy, context and responsible attribution, we do not warrant that all content will be complete, current, uninterrupted, error-free or suitable for any particular purpose.
The site and services are provided “as is” and “as available” to the maximum extent permitted by law.
Nothing on ART Walkway should be treated as legal, financial, medical, investment or professional advice.

Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the minimum extent permitted by applicable law.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law or limits rights that cannot be limited under mandatory applicable law.
24. Suspension and enforcement
ART Walkway may suspend, restrict, block or terminate access to the site, newsletters, subscriptions, accounts, subscriber-only content, forms or services where we reasonably believe that these Terms have been violated, that misuse has occurred, or that action is necessary to protect security, integrity, rights, contributors, users, sources, infrastructure or the editorial record.
Unauthorised use of ART Walkway content may result in takedown requests, access restrictions, rights enforcement and, where appropriate, legal action.
Misuse of ART Walkway’s name, logo, identity, editorial work, contributor status, assignment letters or communication routes may result in access restriction, correction of the record, withdrawal of assignment, refusal of future work, formal clarification to third parties or other appropriate action.
ART Walkway reserves all rights and remedies available under applicable law.
25. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Finland.
