We pretend we’re building community. But it’s a colosseum—just with softer lighting and free tote bags. Feedback sessions become gladiator matches in disguise. Who can sound the smartest? Who can undermine without looking mean?
We stalk each other’s follower counts like predators. We memorize who got which grant. We notice who the visiting curator spent just a little too long talking to.
You think collaboration is blooming? Try competition dressed up as care. Someone’s always “just checking in” on your concept because it sounds a little too much like theirs. Someone’s always “offering feedback” that just happens to make your work look small.
No one wants to say it. So I will:
